Rosacea and Skin Care Cleansers

I ended up being disappointed in the two products I mentioned in my last post. While I’d read such great things about them, they just didn’t work for me. I do absolutely adore Dermalogica cleanser, but the calming cream and barrier repair were a wash for me.

With my skin doing new things, I’ve taken to the store shelves yet again and have been dabbling with different cleansers. So for this is my new favorite combination:

bareMinerals Skincare Purifying Facial Cleanser

Bare Escentuals Purely Nourishing Cream (Dry Skin)

Preface: It’s weird, not only is my skin going nuts, but it’s also been flaking like crazy on top of it all. I’m think it’s not only age, but another cleanser I tried. Neutrogena All Naturals. Eh, not for me…dried my skin like crazy and even was a little stingy the first time I used it! I would not recommend the Neutrogena.

Another product I’ve played with is the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser.. I like the consistency, and it felt nice and refreshing, but it just didn’t do anything for me either way. Maybe if I used it longer, but if you’ve experimented with products, you know pretty quickly if it’s going to be helpful to you. This will go in my shower for occasional use. I don’t think it will do any damage, but I don’t think it’s making a huge difference for me.

Back to the Bare Escentuals…I was scouring the internet and came across something people were raving about. A “Good Skin” or something or another from Kohl’s. I head on over and go searching – ack, there’s empty spaces where they are, but not in a good way like it’s been snapped up. All the spots for the samplers are gone too.

I asked somebody about it, and they said they are discontinuing that particular line. I was crushed, because it was yet another “hope” to get results with my skin. That day I came home and spent hours, and I do mean hours reading reviews, checking for products, etc. Over and over and over again I read great reviews about this cleanser. It wasn’t targeted for Rosacea, but I thought I’d give it a try anyway, since I love their make-up line.

Wow, really do like it, but I need to give it longer to make a judgement call. My skin first has stopped flaking, and my flushing is minimized, along with less “spots” or papules. It’s too early to say it’s an “answer” – but let’s just say out of the gate, I’m quite pleased. This is the best my skin has looked in awhile.

I will give an updated review later if I’m still pleased with it, or if it takes a turn. There are reviews on places like Bare Escentuals, Ulta, QVC, MakeUpAlley.com and more if you’d like to read more.

Experimenting Yet Again with Products for Rosacea

As you may realize by now, when you have a product that works for you – you’re tickled, just thrilled! Yeah, I know that feeling well. Take for instance this sunblock that’s been a winner for me. LOVE IT!

Lately though, my tried and true daily products are not doing what they were once doing for me – offering relief. I do really like these two products – Aveeno Positively Ageless Rejuvenating Serum – and this just for how “moist” it feels and helps my overly dry skin – Garnier Refreshing Gel Cream.

The problem is what was doing fine by me for awhile – well, after a 2 week trip to Florida and more sun than usual, my skin is flared up – and I need help. It feels like starting all over again, right? You’ve been there. You have something your skin is agreeable with, then suddenly -blah, Rosacea does it again.

I’m now working with these two products from Dermalogica. I love Dermalogica. I use their ultra calming cleanser daily and am finally back to more of their products to see if I can bring my skin back in balance. I’ll let you know how it goes…I’m testing one on my left side of my face, one on my right, and together layered on my forehead.

The Dermalogica products I’m working with now:

Dermalogica Barrier Repair, Packaging May Vary, 1-Ounce

Dermalogica UltraCalming Serum Concentrate 1.7 oz.

I know what it’s like to find something that works – you want to shout it out to everybody. You want to dance around because your skin is calm and looking almost normal….and I know what it’s like when you flare up like crazy. Been there, done that.

Facial Sunblock

Oh My GOSH! Finding facial sunblock when you have Rosacea can be a chore. (SEE PRODUCTS THAT WORK FOR ME BELOW) What worked fine last year, may cause me to react this year. I’m always on the lookout for products like Rosacea sunscreen, but let’s face it, it’s just about trying out a bunch of different things. Often times it’s not even the active ingredients that cause a problem, but the inactive ingredients like fragrance and stuff.

I was looking for facial sunscreen that would work for ME. A simple sunscreen lotion that would allow me to feel like I’m not putting paste on my face, and would offer me protection and not cause me to breakout like crazy. I’ve found two that are working for me. I want to say this…what works for me – may not work for you. In fact, while one of the products is Neutrogena, I tried 3 different similar Neutrogena products that didn’t work for me (ex:the healthy aging one with spf, sensitive skin, etc)….it’s not about one brand, it’s not about one ingredient…you need to try something for a few days, because what works today – well, 3 days later, wham!

This is what is currently working for me. They have it in both 55+ and 70+…I’m using the 55+ without a problem right now. I love how super lightweight it feels and it’s nice under my make-up:

facialsunscreen

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Liquid Sunblock SPF 55 – 1.4 oz.

facialsunblock

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Liquid Sunblock SPF 70+, 1.4-Ounce (Pack of 2)

While this next product is not a specific “Rosacea Sunblock” I’ve been having pretty decent results with it. I’ve used both the liquid drops listed above – especially if I’ll be outside a lot, but as a moisturizer with SPF in it, I’ve also had some success with this Aveeno product:

aveenospf

Aveeno Ultra-Calming Daily Moisturizer SPF 15 – 4 oz.

Lastly, I found this neat compact which offers 50+ SPF! It’s been non-reactive with my skin and does a nice job of not only toning down my redness but offering me protection. The best part is that it does double duty and it’s not expensive!

healthywear

Physicians Formula Healthy Wearâ„¢ SPF 50 Powder Foundation – Creamy Beige

The best part is all of the products listed are all under $20…most fall in the $10+ dollar range – think $10-$15 and are super easy to find. Your local stores carry them all, or you can grab them through here – just click on the link or picture for more info and pricing. *all the links lead to Amazon

Prosacea for your Rosacea

prosacea-rosacea

Prosacea Rosacea Treatment, Gel, 0.75 Ounces (Pack of 2)

A lot of people are having great luck with Prosacea, which is a gel for Rosacea. Rather than going to the doctor and getting expensive creams and gels, along with paying for a doctor’s visit, people are buying a similar product and spending WAY less money! Check out the ratings, people love this stuff. It’s not only saving them money on costlier versions, but it’s working to make a difference in people’s skin. You should always read the reviews and ratings and decide for yourself, but I will tell you, I bought it, and it reminds me of a gel my dermatologist gave me a long time ago, that I paid a lot more for. I’ll take Prosacea over expensive doctor visits.
